Last night, under the influence of a “the-baby-could-come-any-moment-and-we-are-NOT-ready-yet” style panic Martin and I finished the nursery.
It was already mostly done, but it HAD been very unisex. NOW it has gone from a general story book theme, to a Fairy wonderland/storybook theme. I still have a mural I’m planning for one wall, but that can wait a bit.

the crib used to belong to my niece Ivey. Ivey is now 15. My mother has waited a looooong time for another Granddaughter.

We looked for a comfy chair that the adults would love and that won’t tip over when Ginny starts to pull up on it (and swarm all over it) Pay no heed to the evil-eyed kitty. that’s just Kenya. She’s mostly harmless.
You may notice the bugs and butterflies all over the room. They are thin wood items I found in a craft section. They were really cheap so I got tons of them and we have glued them all over the place. They are layered, so they will be fun for Ginny to touch.

So that’s the updated nursery.
The reason it got done so fast last night is that Ginny’s birth mommy (Mel) went into labor yesterday afternoon. (we had THOUGHT we had till Sept 25th !!!!!!) The doctors gave her something to make it stop and something else to make Ginny’s lungs develop a little bit more quickly (just in case). So we rushed to finish the nursery and we will keep rushing to finish other things around the house every night this week, hoping we can get it all done before Ginny decides to arrive.
Mel, Ginny and Steve are back at their home now, resting comfortably and watching movies.
Please pray that Ginny will continue to develop and grow inside her birth-mommy for at least a few more weeks. We are only barely into week 31, so it’s a bit early still. But at least the room is ready. Just like the place in our hearts. Ready and waiting for Virginia Altie.

Wow, how scary for baby to possibly come so early! Glad that they were able to stop the labor. Whew!
I love the baby’s room—it is gorgeous!!! What other goodies do you need? I heard that Target is having a huge carseat clearance sale at many locations this week, so check that out if you don’t have the carseat yet. Also, I am a bit paranoid about used cribs… I am guessing ya’ll measured the slats on the crib, but just in case, I thought I’d throw that out there, LOL. Of course, something made 15 yrs ago is probably sturdier than some of the cribs being manufactured in Asia now! I know Jardine just did a big recall of cribs manufactured recently, so you are probably just fine 🙂 If you want another book to rate baby gear, I highly recommend ‘baby bargains.’ Have fun nesting!
Yes we DID check and the slats are close enough together. the only “big thing” we still need is a newer mattress.

Yeah, I was pretty sure that ya’ll had measured, but I couldn’t resist butting in 🙂 Can you tell i love to talk about baby gear? 🙂
Oh, since I am butting in, let me recommend one of my favorite baby gadgets, the baby carrier! I really recommend the Moby wrap for when babe is small and tiny, and then an Ergo or Beco Butterfly when she is a little bigger. It is so yummy to walk around the house with baby nestled in, and great for bonding, etc. And your husband can use them too!
There is actually a baby wearing group in our area if you want the link, and you can go and try on some wraps for free to see which ones you like best. :-0 There’s also some great info at thebabywearer.com
There are so many styles, it is fun to try!

We actually already have the baby carrier that we will be using. Martin and I both tried it out in the store (with weight in it) to make sure it was comfy for both of us. Of course Ginny might not like it, but we will deal with that if it happens.

Deirdre, only you would dare put up purple curtains in a room with green walls, and so much color already! You are awesome. It does look absolutely gorgeous. You are foremost and always my decorator when it comes to colors. Remember yellow, blue and green? and not pale, but vibrant wedgewood colors.
Have you and Martin officially given up even the thought of sleep for pre-lent?
To those of you who do not know me, I am the grandmother that has been waiting for fifteen years for Ginny. Deirdre has been decorating with me since she was an infant. At first I would dream up the ideas and she would implement them, the finished product being far more beautiful than my “dream.” Then she kinda of passed me somewhere along the way and became the consultant and I the consultee. When it comes to color, I definitely take the rear of the bus! I think it happened in 11th grade when her art teacher saw color in black and white!
You go, lady! And bring me home the baby!

The nursery is so pretty! Praying that little Ginny stays put for a few more weeks! My husband and I are sending our application to CAC on Monday. I has been so great to follow along with your adoption journey!
Thanks! I’m so glad you are sending in your application. We will definitely go with CAC for a second adoption. We have been very pleased with their attention to detail and dedication, as well as their conscientious approach to adoption.

Here’s all my prayers for Ginny to stay in her cozy, warm, quiet and nurturing home in her birth mom’s tummy for as long as she can. The longer she stays in the better. You know that Craig and I are here if you and Martin have any questions about preemies or being in the NICU. Having Jessie made us have to learn all about preemies and the NICU. The fact that she’s a girl is good and the shot the birth mom got will help her lungs. NICU’s are so good now at taking care of preemies. The March Of Dimes helped come up with the drugs and therapies to help the babies. 32 weeks is not bad. But, 34 or 36 weeks would be great. Whenever Ginny is born, I know God will be watching over you all.

I love the nursery, DeeDee. It’s a wonderful room for baby dear. I’m so glad you could use the crib, as it is so beautiful. I’m praying that Ginny stays snug just a while longer, also.
Your’s and Alex’s pending motherhood brings back many memories of when the two of you were infants, and how very lucky your Mom and I felt at having two such wonderful little girls.

Do you have a rocking chair somewhere? It turned out to be a necessity for WCB – she wouldn’t go to sleep without it for about 2-3 months.
Also – again for the first few months, plan on a reasonably comfortable chair for you (or Martin) near the crib. I still have to sit in one holding her hand on occasion when she wakes in the middle of the night.
We do have rockers. A couple actually.

I remember people used to tell me “you know you don’t HAVE to have the nursery completed before the baby gets here, she won’t know the difference” and I would just look at them quizzically and wonder what language they were speaking.
the funny thing is that I *thought* I was done. but the next day I just HAPPENED to stop at JoAnn’s and lo-and-behold! they had more of those little wooden cut outs in different butterflies and flowers than I already had. So of course I HAD to get them. And they also had a piece of framed wall art that say “Fairy Tales do come true” and it was PURPLE ! so it was like a moral obligation. I HAD to buy it. there will be update photos later.
